In 1756 the Port wine vineyards of the Douro became the first vineyard area in the world to be legally demarcated. Port Wine has a distinctive character to a unique association of climate, soil, indigenous grape varieties and centuries long tradition. The unique terroir of the Douro Valley and the extraordinary wines there produced are not replicable anywhere else in the world! The main grape varieties used are: Touriga Nacional, Tinta Roriz, Touriga Franca, Tinta Barroca, Tinta Cao and Sousao. There several quite different styles of Port Wine: Vintage, LBV (Late Bottled Vintage), Colheita (Harvest), Tawny, Ruby and White. This is definitely a unique wine in the world!
